About Me
I began my career in the health & wellness industry in London in 1993. Firstly by qualifying as a Personal Trainer, and then in 1995 as a Holistic Massage Therapist. My work was predominantly one-to-one, where I went to client’s homes & worked from several gyms in & around London.
As my career developed through the 1990s and into the early 2000’s I found myself working extensively within the media and film industry. Training actors, musicians and other high-profile clients which often involved travelling for periods of time throughout the UK, Europe and frequently to the United States. This was where I took every opportunity to study and explore approaches to movement and training that were not widely available in the UK at the time.
It was during this period that I discovered Classical Pilates and experienced first hand the remarkable role it could play in rebuilding strength, control and confidence whilst I recovered from a fractured pelvis. What Joseph Pilates originally called Contrology fascinated me — not simply as a collection of exercises, but as a complete system of intelligent, mindful movement. Not only did it help to eliminate the constant sciatica that I experienced which was caused by the injury, but it also strengthened my body that years of conventional exercises had never quite reached & I loved the way that it challenged me both mentally and physically - I was hooked & focused on learning as much as I could. I travelled extensively around Europe & America to study the Classical method as thoroughly as I could & worked in several studios to gain a full & comprehensive understanding of the work before solely focusing on teaching the method to others, and in 2012 I opened my own private studio in Buckinghamshire.
In 2016 I was introduced to Somatic movement & Thomas Hanna’s work. This method of neuromuscular re-education was invaluable to me whilst healing from a cervical disc herniation. It became such an integral part of my life alongside Pilates that in 2018 I began my training in Somatic Movement Education & certified in 2022 as a Somatic Movement Coach.
Somatic Movement Education has since become a vitally important part of my work, & I am continuing to deepen this knowledge through my current training as a Clinical Somatic Educator which is the ‘hands on work’ created by Thomas Hanna, and taught by Essential Somatics. In 2026 I relocated to Glasgow, Scotland to open The Somatic Movement Clinic.
Much of my work now is with people experiencing persistent back or hip pain, shoulder & neck pain, neuromuscular tension, high levels of stress or restricted movement, as well as those recovering from injury, surgery or joint replacement. I see people of all ages ranging from 13 to 93. That is the wonderful thing about Pilates & Somatic movement - there is no discrimination & there are endless possibilities for movement to take place in your body, no matter how old you are, or what your restriction might be. You are never too young or old to ‘learn to listen to your body’!
Every session begins with the person in front of me — not a predetermined programme. I take the time to listen to how you feel & observe your movement. If it is appropriate I will use palpation and hands-on assessment to help us explore where there is restricted movement/pain/muscular tension. What we do together evolves from there. Helping you to achieve your goals, and make lasting changes that really make a difference to your life, is paramount to me at The Somatic Movement Clinic.
